German Shepherd Names
So you’ve brought home your German Shepherd puppy and realized you don’t know what to call him. You figure you can’t go around calling him, “Hey you!” He needs a name befitting his breed. Something regal and royal. You can’t call a female German Shepherd “Fifi,” it wouldn’t be right.
A German Shepherd was a herding dog that would protect the flock. They would protect the sheep from wolves and bears. They were intelligent and easy to train. They were extremely well suited for any job that they were given. They could work in the military as well as be Seeing Eye dogs.
They excel at police work. But who can forget Rin Tin Tin? He became a star and made everyone want a German Shepherd.
Rin Tin Tin is a good name, but in honor of another German Shepherd who paved the way for the Seeing Eye is Buddy. She was the first, and will always be remembered for her intelligence and loyalty.

- Valiant - This name means fearless, gallant, brave and noble. It also comes from the comic Prince Valiant – a comic strip that has been running for more than 60 years.
- Worf - Another Star Trek name. Honorable and wild at the same time.
Female German Shepherd Names
- Avalon - This name is for a free-spirited dog. A dog that brightens any room.
- Amazon - This name comes from the Amazon rain-forest and also the feared female warriors.
- Freya - A name of a Goddess from the Norse belief system. She was independent and wild.
